Today, MMG and I hiked about 2 miles then climbed the Washington Monument at least twice! -- at least it seemed like it!. The Park Service lists the Avalanche Trail as 2 miles (ONE WAY) and 500 feet elevation change. MMG and my concensus is that the net elevation change may be 500 feet, but the way the trail is routed the hiker must climb that 500 feet at least three times! Are we whining tonight? You bet! Was it worth it? You bet! And we'll try to show you why.
Sometimes the it's not the destination, but the trip. Today it was both.
For the first half of the hike, the trail follows closely the stream that flows down from Avalanche Lake. The following picture shows the aspect of the stream that appealed to MMG:

And at the other end of the trail, there is this beautiful little lake with a back drop of high mountains and waterfalls. Our apologies for the quality of these pictures, but there was a lightning caused forest fire south of Glacier and we were having to take pictures through a deep haze.

Some other parts of the trail offered their own small charms:
Don't have a clue what the name of this is. It is the only example of this plant we have seen in Glacier -- or possibly ever....

Maybe one day I'll learn to imbed these vids in the right place!
Hope you are having a great weekend!
Love to you all,
