Capitol Reef, Day 5

Started the day with a trip back up UT 12 to Boulder to visit the Anasazi State Park and Museum. Kind of a disappointment after a 45 mile jaunt up and down and around the mountains, but we did see this beautiful lake along the way.

Brown Lake.

Most interesting thing at Anasazi State Park.

Bee at work!
Canyon wall in Capitol Gorge.

How deep is this canyon? Note the person standing at the bottom.

4000 year old graffiti. As opposed to the 800 year old graffiti in yesterday's blog.

More modern graffiti -- 1911, still almost 100 years old.

How do you suppose they got up there?

A "tank" carved in the rock by rushing water during the wet seasons. Holds water for the wildlife when there is water to be held. You can see the path the water takes to get into the tank.
A cairn marking the trail where we had to cross barren rock faces to get to the tanks.

Met these dudes on the way to the tanks.

How big is this dragon? About 10 inches.

And of course it is Spring here and flowers will find a way even if it seems too arid for them.

MMG calls this "Bad hair day".

And here is an "artsy shot just for the composition and colors.

And the giant pelican beak for the Pelicanlady!

Yeah, it's a stretch, but I claim overtiredness.......

More tomorrow.

MMG and DDG
