Another photo trip through the park today. Beautiful day in the 60s with ample sunshine and little wind.
If you care to follow along on the Park map, you can bring it up from the previous post. We left West Yellowstone, entering the Park at the west gate and following the road along the Madison River to Madison Junction, then north to Norris Junction, east to Canyon Village, south through Fishing Bridge to West Thumb, then northwest through Old Faithful to Madison Junction, then west to West Yellowstone.
We were fortunate enough to find MMGs first White Pelicans and Grizzly Bears before lunch!
OK, the Grizzlies were a long way off, but here's proof!
The White Pelicans were another matter. They were quite close and obliged MMG by taking off and flying slowly away so she could get these pictures. If you think these are a bit much, remember that MMG's email address is "Pelicanlady". I expect you'll see a bunch more White Pelican pictures over the next few days.
For those of you on the east coast and are only familiar with Brown Pelicans, the White Pelicans are about 30% bigger than the Browns with a wingspread that can reach 10 feet. Another difference is that they do not dive to catch fish as the Browns, but work together, swimming on the surface to herd fish into the center of the circle that they form, then merely ducking their heads under to capture a meal. When several are feeding, it brings to mind the action of an old fashioned sewing machine!
Anyway, on to the pics!
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone Revisited
We posted a couple of pictures of the Canyon, including the display that explains its formation and colors, a couple of days ago with a promise to do more. Here's more:
Mystery Birds
We would appreciate hearing from anyone who can identify the small birds in this picture. Thanks in advance!
And, at MMG's request, a picture of her with her new boyfriend. She dumped "Santa"!
More tomorrow!
