Scenery Overload

We woke this morning with the urge to just get in the car and go see some of our favorite places in the area, so that's just what we did.

Our plan was to first go to Cedar Breaks National Monument, first because we think the cliffs and colors there rival all others in the area, and second, we could hike out to see the Bristlecone Pines there. More detail: Cedar Breaks is a three mile wide, two thousand foot deep amphitheater of elegant hoodoos. Cedar Breaks is sitting two thousand feet higher than Bryce Canyon (Bryce is at 8000 feet.) . Once in the monument, there is a five-mile rim drive with four view points to stop. As a bonus, the drive up and over the mountains to Cedar Breaks and the on to Cedar City is pretty spectacular on its own. Here's a picture of just one of the sights:

Unfortunately, when we got to the turn off to Cedar Breaks we were greeted with a "Road Closed" sign. Evidently Cedar Breaks is still snowbound!

Next on the plan was to go south from Cedar City to Zion National Park. This plan worked better as we had smooth sailing all the way there and through the Park. Again, just the drive to and from the park is beautiful as seen here:

And here's why Zion is so popular:

Even an arch in the making for Robert:

And one for Suzi:

And one for Mary:

And one for MMG:

Our Next Motorhome.

To get to or from Bryce Canyon NP, one has to drive through Red Canyon, a part of Dixie National Forest.

Red Canyon is sort of a warm up for Bryce Canyon, which we will see tomorrow:

All that made for a busy day. More tomorrow!
